How does the suspension system work on electric dual sport motorcycles

The suspension system on electric dual sport motorcycles is a sophisticated setup designed to enhance ride quality and handling on rough terrains. It primarily consists of front forks and a rear shock absorber.​

At the front, the forks house a set of springs and damping mechanisms. When the motorcycle encounters a bump or an uneven surface, the front wheel compresses the springs in the forks. The springs absorb the initial impact energy, preventing it from being directly transferred to the rider and the frame. The damping system, which often includes oil-filled chambers and valves, then controls the rate at which the springs expand and contract. This ensures a smooth and controlled movement, preventing the forks from bouncing back too quickly or remaining compressed for too long.​

The rear shock absorber operates on a similar principle. It also has a spring and a damping unit. The shock absorber is connected to the motorcycle's frame and the rear swingarm. As the rear wheel hits obstacles, the swingarm moves, compressing the shock absorber. The spring in the shock absorber stores the impact energy, while the damping system regulates the movement. In rough terrains like rocky trails or muddy ruts, the suspension system adjusts continuously. Riders can often manually adjust the stiffness of the springs and the damping settings. For example, on a very bumpy and uneven off-road track, a rider might increase the damping to reduce excessive bouncing. This customization allows the suspension to adapt to different riding conditions, providing better stability, traction, and a more comfortable ride for the rider, ultimately enabling the electric dual sport motorcycle to handle rough terrains more effectively.​
